Everything we do at Capricornia Prawns is done with one thing in mind, producing the world’s best prawn for taste and quality whilst always ensuring the prawn’s wellbeing is never compromised.

We do this using the most advanced science and technology and we never harm the prawns in the process.

We start with Genetics and we use natural processes, not genetic engineering.

Just like humans, there are big prawns and little prawns. We painstakingly select the larger prawns in a harvest and use them as brood stock. It takes up to 30 prawn generations to get it right, but the effort is made all the worthwhile in the end product.

In conjunction with the CSIRO, we are developing a specific food for the Kuruma prawn who require a high protein diet for optimal growth.

We are also using Biofloc. This converts excrement into a high protein food source which reduces food costs (our highest cost) and also enhances the taste.

Managing dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH in the water is critical to prawn welfare. We do this using a proprietary design in our raceways which overcomes current industry problems of mixing biofloc with these systems.

The Kuruma prawn is nocturnal and requires a sand bed to burrow into through the day. This creates problems with the oxygenation systems and in managing excrement.

Our raceway design addresses these problems and collects the excrement that isn’t converted into biofloc and converts it to a high grade fertiliser.

We are constantly looking for new ways to do things better and we will never rest on our laurels.
